Cool pictures and tips for our Hot Kitchen!

Meu sonho de consumo! What a cool kitchen!

Orange X Fat

Here's a cool tip: If you cut an orange in half and throw it in the feijoada, it sucks all the fat. Take it out before serving, and you'll see that all the fat is gone from the feijoada and into the orange. is that cool or what???

Parsley X garlic and onions!

To get rid of the garlic or onions smell in your hands after cooking, rub parsley, then wash it with cold running water and it'll be gone immediately!

Got any cool tips to add?

Autumn Cinnamon Apple Cake

This recipe is a total hit. I got it from a friend from Oklahoma who had a family recipe book from her grandma! A real antique! Here goes this old american family recipe, an all time favorite. My daughter Flor gave it this fancy name:

Autumn Cinnamon Apple Cake

2 eggs

2cups sugar (the crystal type sugar works better)

1 cup oil

2 tb spoons vanilla

1 tb spoon baking powder

2 tb spoons cinnamon

3 cups flour

1 tea spoon salt

2 cups diced peeled apples

Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, oil. Then add flour, baking powder, salt, and last but not least, add the apples.

Bake in moderate oven for about 45 minutes. If you double it, use bigger pan and avoid making it very high, as it rises well.

It can be served hot by itself, or with vanilla ice cream or chantily. Yummy! Enjoy it!

2 ovos

Sugar Free Carrot Cake

CARROT CAKE
Vegan carrot cake is always a hit, and it's easy to make as the carrots provide enough moisture that you don't need to worry about using and egg replacer as a binder. This vegan carrot cake recipe with whole wheat flour uses dates and orange juice for a bit of sweetness so it is sugar-free.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups water
1 1/4 cups dates, chopped
1 cup raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cup carrot, grated
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/3 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
PREPARATION:

In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and set aside.
Combine the water, dates, raisins, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and gently simmer for 5 minutes.

Place the shredded carrots and pour the hot water mixture over them, and allow to cool completely.

Add the walnuts and orange juice concentrate to the carrot mixture and mix well.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir well to combine. Pour the batter into a lightly greased cake pan.

Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Frost with a sugar-free vegan frosting.
